Adopt-A-Park
The Adopt-A-Park Program allows citizens, groups, churches and other organizations to show pride in their community by working to beautify and clean a park or open space in Marine City.
Groups and individuals are encouraged to take pride in their community and assist the parks department with preserving Marine City’s green spaces through general upkeep and clean up. Together we can create safe, clean spaces where friends can gather, children play and neighborhoods can thrive.
What is required to adopt a park?
- Fill out an Adopt-a-Park Application.
- Set up a meeting with the Department of Public Works Supervisor to discuss adoption details and create a park work plan based on adopted park and group needs.
- Complete assigned park clean up events.
What types of duties are required in adopted parks?
- Picking up trash and litter
- Raking leaves and pulling weeds
- Fluffing playground sand or wood chips
- Wash picnic tables and benches
- Sweeping hard surfaces (ie. Sidewalks, basketball courts, etc.)
- Reporting vandalism, unsafe conditions and/or necessary repairs
Who can adopt a park?
The Adopt-a-Park volunteer program promotes long-term partnerships between residents and city government to maintain and beautify our parks. Park adopters can be individuals, neighborhood associations, community groups, school clubs and local businesses.
Is it free to adopt a park?
It is free to adopt a park; however, time commitments are needed to complete clean-up tasks.
Is there any recognition for participating in the adopt-a-park program?
Absolutely! We value all who volunteers to help in the community. In addition to a clean park and a sense of community spirit, adoptive groups will be recognized on the Marine City website.
Are there any tips for our time at the park?
- Your time at a Marine City Park should be enjoyable and above all fun! Make sure to advertise your event within your group and invite others to help too. After your clean-up efforts please take time to enjoy your surroundings by holding a picnic, BBQ or outdoor games.
- Follow all safety guidelines and make sure to plan your outing during regular park business hours.
- Be sure to post fun photos and videos about your experience in a Marine City Park on your social media and be sure to share on the Marine City Facebook page.
